Circle "R"
Mechanical has a strong commercial and industrial background
allowing our balancers to encounter a wide variety of mechanical
designs. Designs would include, but are not limited to, variable
air volume systems, dual path duct systems, univents, chilled water
systems, and hot water systems. These types of system are
controlled by pneumatic, direct digital controls, and standard
thermostats.
A word about
Indoor Air Quality
Perhaps the most explosive new area of the sheet metal industry is
that of Indoor Air Quality (IAQ). Representatives from NEMI were
involved in developing the first significant national study of the
costs and benefits of worker productivity due to improved air
quality.
Now that the results are in, others are joining NEMI in calling for
major IAQ improvements. The
Environmental Protection Agency
issued a report stating that "IAQ is one of the top five health
risks of our time." Over 45% of commercial buildings have IAQ
problems. In addition, a
Government Accounting Office
(GAO) report on the state of the nation’s schools showed that "27%
of schools reported unsatisfactory ventilation, with 19% reporting
unsatisfactory indoor air quality."
According to
BusinessWeek,
companies can save over "$258 billion annually in lost man-hours and
worker productivity by fixing their IAQ problems." Millions will
also be spent to retrofit and to build new schools. Thanks to NEMI,
the most qualified and sought after technicians will only be
available through the
SMWIA and
SMACNA.
